It focuses on The South Asian Foundation for Academic Research (SAFAR) is established for scholars from institutions and universities around the globe. It focuses on research on South Asia and provides opportunities for researchers to participate in seminar-workshops and collaborate under the direct mentorship of professors.

The major areas of ongoing research at present are:

  • Rethinking South Asian Studies
  • Nepali Art: Spatiality, Textuality, and Sexuality
  • Community Studies and Nepal–Bangladesh Memory Studies

As a research organization, SAFAR prepares scholars to understand the nuances of inquiry within the human sciences. Researchers gain training in scientific reasoning, research design, critical comparativism, and interdisciplinary pedagogy. In collaboration with the Center for Advanced Studies in South Asia (CASSA), SAFAR continues to expand its academic reach through seminars, publications, and collaborative projects.

Our MISSION

To foster critical, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research on South Asia by building a community of scholars committed to ethical inquiry, inclusive pedagogy, and the rethinking of dominant knowledge paradigms.

SAFAR supports emerging and established researchers through academic mentorship, field-engaged seminars, and global collaborations that explore the intersections of memory, identity, art, and society.

SAFAR envisions a dynamic and globally engaged intellectual space where South Asia is not only studied but reimagined.

We strive to create research environments that:

  • Recenter marginalized perspectives and comparative frameworks
  • Connect theory and lived experience across disciplines
  • Cultivate new generations of scholars in the human sciences

Through innovation, inclusivity, and internationalism, SAFAR seeks to transform how knowledge about South Asia is created, taught, and shared.
